Sick Camera

I took this as my camera was beginning to develop a glow around all sources of light. I was trying to test if it was better. It was not, and two weeks later it had died.

Remembering

From the genocide memorial in Kigali. These were actual family photos of victims, donated by their surviving relatives. Some were the only pictures people had.

No Place to Go

Near the end of the boat race this man was on top of the horizontal sail. As it went vertical to make the last push of the race he had nowhere to go but into the water.

This man watches as his blood pressure is measured. He was suffering from cardiac complications and was being watched closely by the medical staff.

Listening Intently

This solider was part of a health talk medical staff from the clinic gave in the village. It was to increase the soldiers awareness of HIV and also tell them about the services offered at the clinic.

Simon

Simon came from a distant village to take part in the eye surgery at the clinic where I worked. He was totally blind and could have been able to see with a short 30 minute surgery. Unfortunately, he could not sit still long enough for the anesthetic. The medical staff suspected he suffered from mental illness and he could not seem to trust the doctors. I caught him sitting outside the surgical ward after the third attempt to give him surgery. I wondered what was going through his mind.

Trying

A clinical officer works to save the life of two soldiers that had shot each other over an alcohol fueled disagreement.

Food Collection

This young girl had come to collect WFP food for her family. Each bulge in the bag is another type of food. She couldn't stop smiling.

This man explains the problems he is having with his eyes as he is screened for eye surgery.
